Milwaukee releases 2014-15 nonconference schedule

Milwaukee Panthers men’s head basketball coach Rob Jeter has put together an impressive, but challenging nonconference schedule for the 2014-15 season.

The Panthers will have six nonconference games at home including a prime time showdown against 2014 NCAA Tournament Final Four participant, Wisconsin on December 10 at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m. CST, and will be aired on ESPN2.

To open the season the Panthers will travel to Auburn to square off against the Tigers on November 14 with the game being televised on ESPNU. This will be a special game for Panther fans, as Bruce Pearl will be making his return to coaching after being suspended for recruiting violations.

Pearl coached Milwaukee for four years from 2001-2005 guiding them to three 20-plus-win seasons including two trips to the NCAA Tournament.

One thing I am sure Panther fans are already wondering is if the Tigers will make a trip to Milwaukee the following season to play a nonconference matchup against the Panthers. While nothing is official yet, Pearl stated it could be a possibility.

This game in Auburn will start a difficult stretch for the Panthers. Beginning with this game against the Tigers, the Panthers will play seven games in only 16 days to begin the season.

Milwaukee will finally play their first regular season home game at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena on November 17 when they host former Panther guard Dan Weisse’s Minnesota-Crookston team.

IUPUI will then make the trip to Milwaukee to play the Panthers on November 19.

Only two nights later the Panthers will be in Stillwater, Oklahoma to take on the Cowboys of Oklahoma State in the first ever meeting between these two programs.

This game along with the matchup against Auburn will be apart of the MGM Grand Main Event. Milwaukee will travel to Las Vegas, Nevada to play two more games in the event with the opponents to be determined.

The Panthers will then make the journey back home to play Concordia-St. Paul on November 29, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City on December 3, with a one game road trip to DePaul following the two-game home stand.

After the battle against Wisconsin, the Panthers will play Montana at the Klotsche Center on December 14 before ending nonconference play with three straight road games against SIU Edwardsville, Arkansas (game will be on ESPNU) and South Dakota.

Milwaukee has an outstanding nonconference schedule put together with four challenging games scheduled against Auburn, Oklahoma State, Wisconsin and Arkansas. This is exactly what Jeter needed to due in order to challenge his players with the focus of this upcoming season being put on developing the team for the 2015-16 campaign. These games will all be a great learning experience for the younger players, and it will be exciting to see Milwaukee square off against power conference schools.
