Elliot Mast works out for Braves, eager for MLB Draft

Elliot Mast

Elliot Mast has had to fight adversity throughout his life to play the sport he loves. Mast has been passionate about baseball since he was young, but had to first overcome being born with a club foot.

Now with the MLB First-Year Player Draft just days away, he could potentially start chasing his dream of playing professional baseball this summer. Ranked as a top 400 prospect by Perfect Game, Mast had a pre-draft worked out with the Atlanta Braves on June 1.

“It was an awesome experience,” said Mast about the Braves workout. “Being able to get on the field at SunTrust Park was a blessing. It felt really good to work out for them.

“It’s another step to your goals and dreams. Hopefully, I get that call on second or third day of the draft. What I did during the Braves workout shows that I could be an asset to them.”

A 6-foot-3, 210-pound outfielder, Mast is from Pennsylvania and played for Altoona Area High School. Mast is known for his powerful bat and energy he brings to the field. In 21 games with his high school team this spring, Mast hit .333 with five home runs, 23 RBIs and a .493 on-base percentage.

If the MLB Draft doesn’t work out in Mast’s favor, he will have an opportunity to reenter the draft next year. Although he received offers from multiple Division I schools, Mast decided to go the junior college route, as he’s committed to Chesapeake College in Maryland.

“It really depends on the interest in the team and the round I go in plays the biggest role,” said Mast about deciding between pro ball and college. “If it comes down to it, I’m willing to play at Chesapeake College and do what I can to get that draft spot next year.”
