2016 MLB Draft: Mock Draft 4.0

Picks 6-10

6. Oakland Athletics: Corey Ray, OF, Louisville

The Athletics have been linked to position players throughout the entire draft process and Ray makes a lot of sense for the A’s.

He’s a safe pick who will move through the minor league system quickly. Ray is a well-rounded player who figures to play centerfield in pro ball.

7. Miami Marlins: Braxton Garrett, LHP, Florence (Ala.) H.S.

Garrett is an advanced prep arm, who will move quicker through the minor leagues than the typical high school pitcher. Numerous members of the Marlins front office were also in attendance when Garrett struck out 19 batters in a recent start.

8. San Diego Padres: Riley Pint, RHP, St. Thomas Aquinas (Kan.) HS

With the Padres owning three of the first 25 picks, they could go under-slot with the No. 8 overall pick and draft a college arm to save bonus money to use for the No. 24 and 25 picks. Stanford right-hander Cal Quantrill, a top 10 talent who missed this season recovering from Tommy John surgery, is on the Padres radar.

But if they decide to select the best player available, Pint is that guy.

9. Detroit Tigers: Matt Manning, RHP, Sheldon (Calif.) HS

Detroit loves power arms and is hoping Pint slides all the way to its pick at No. 9.

Manning is a flame throwing right-handed prep pitcher and would be a good alternative if Pint is off the board. Mississippi State righty Dakota Hudson could also be a possibility for the Tigers.

10. Chicago White Sox: Gavin Lux, SS, Indian Trail Academy (Wis.)

The White Sox would love to see Chicago native Corey Ray still on the board when they select at No. 10. However, if he isn’t on the board, prep shortstop Gavin Lux and Miami catcher Zack Collins are players the White Sox have shown interest in.

Find out more about Lux here.
