Panthers win on the road

Another day and another close game for the Milwaukee Panthers men’s soccer team. This time the Panthers took their undefeated record (2-0-1) on the road to face DePaul. The Panthers continued their winning ways with a close 2-1 victory over the Blue Demons in overtime.

Robbie Boyd broke the 0-0 tie in the 37th minute when he scored on an unassisted goal from 15 yards out. Both teams would remain scoreless in the first half, with the Panthers on top after 45 minutes of play.

The Panthers came out aggressively in the second half with numerous opportunities to extend their led, but failed to execute. Neither team could find the back of the net until the 89th minute when Anthony Hunter of DePaul tied the game up at one apiece, forcing overtime.

With 36 seconds left in overtime Andrew Stone redirected a corner kick from Luke Goodnetter to give the Panthers the win over the Blue Demons on the road. The Panthers dominated the offensive possession thorough out the entire game, with 26 shots compared to the Blue Demons eight.

Although DePaul struggled offensively, the excellent play of goalie Eric Sorby was the difference. Sorby did allow two goals, but it could have been much worse. The Panthers had many chances to score, but Sorby and his 11 saves, kept DePaul in the game until the end. Execution has been a major problem for the Panthers so far this season, and it will need to improve soon if they want to continue to win.

This was a great way to start the road trip for the Panthers, and up next will be IUPUI on Sunday in Indianapolis. The Panthers will go in as the favorite against the Jaguars, but if they are unable to execute on more of their chances, it will be closer then expected. It will be another fun game for the Panthers, and lets hope they can end the weekend with a victory.
