Packers vs. Lions: Preview, Prediction
- Updated: September 6, 2025

The Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions will renew their rivalry Sunday at Lambeau Field in one of the marquee matchups of Week 1. Detroit is coming off a 15-2 season and a second straight NFC North title, though its playoff run ended with a 45-31 loss to Washington. Green Bay finished 11-6 before falling 22-10 at Philadelphia.
The Lions have won three straight in Green Bay, but they enter this season with new coordinators and a reshaped staff after losing both coordinators and six assistants to other jobs. That coaching turnover could be a factor early as the team adjusts to new leadership.
The Packers added star pass rusher Micah Parsons in a trade with Dallas, pairing him with Rashan Gary on the edge. Parsons may see limited snaps after missing training camp, but his presence should help a young defensive front led by Devonte Wyatt and Karl Brooks.
Offensively, Green Bay will lean on running back Josh Jacobs to keep pressure off quarterback Jordan Love against Detroit’s strong secondary.
This matchup figures to be close, but Green Bay’s continuity and home-field advantage give it the edge.
Prediction: Packers 27, Lions 24
