The 3rd Man In

The winning continues

What a great weekend for the Milwaukee Panthers men’s soccer team. First they got the win on Friday against DePaul, and today they beat IUPUI 3-0, to remain undefeated. The Milwaukee Panthers (4-0-1) are now undefeated through their first five games, for the first time since 1996.

It did not take long for the Panthers to get on the board. In the 11th minute Robbie Boyd received a pass from Austin Toth, and sent a left foot drive to the back of the net, from 16 yards out, to give the Panthers an early 1-0 lead. Milwaukee would go onto control the possession with nine shots compared to the Jaguars five, but neither team would be able to execute on their opportunities. At the half, the visiting Panthers held the 1-0 lead over the Jaguars.

The Panthers came out strong in the second half, and continued to play well on both sides of the ball. It would not be until the 63rd minute that the Panthers would add to their scoring with a goal from Laurie Bell, assisted by Robbie Boyd, from six yards away, his third of the season. While two goals would have been enough for the Panthers, they continued to add on in the 81st minute when senior Riley Weiner split the defense and buried a shot from the top of the 18-yard box, for his first goal of the season.

That would be all the scoring done the rest of the way, as the Panthers recorded their second shutout of the season, on their way to another victory. Liam Anderson had another great performance with three saves on the day, and the defense as a whole did an exceptional job. Milwaukee had the advantage in shots with 18 compared to IUPUI’s 11, and had four of the seven corner kicks.

Up next for the Panthers is Western Illinois on Thursday at Engelmann Stadium. The Leathernecks are 1-4 on the season, and it should be another great game for the Panthers as they try to continue their winning ways in front of their home fans.
