Six Panthers earn All-League honors

With the regular season coming to a close, the Horizon League men’s soccer awards have been announced by the league office on Monday. Six players on the Milwaukee Panthers squad earned recognition for their excellent performances throughout the regular season.

Seniors Laurie Bell and Luke Goodnetter each earned First-Team All-Horizon League honors, while junior Declan Rodriguez was named to the Second-Team. Freshmen Petter Ingebrigtsen, Reid Stevenson and Nick Moon were named to the Horizon league All-Freshman Team.

This is the third time Bell has been named to the first-team list in his four-year career playing for the Panthers. Bell had high expectations entering the season after being named a First-Team All-American a year ago, and although he was unable to reach those incredible numbers, he still had an excellent season.

He found the back of the net three times while also recording three assists. He also led the league with 67 shots – 14 more than anyone else.

While his numbers don’t jump off the page, Bell was always the Panthers most dangerous offensive threat and opposing teams knew that, always paying close attention to him defensively.

Goodnetter will end his two-year career with the Panthers by being named to the second-team list as a junior and then to the first-team list as a senior.

This is the second time in Rodriguez’s career that he has been named to the second-team, the first time coming in 2012 when he was a freshman.

For the first time since 2001, Milwaukee had three freshmen named to the all-freshman team. Ingebrigtsen and Stevenson led the Panther offense this year, each tallying five goals with one assist for 11 points in 18 games. Moon chipped in two goals and two assists for six points in 15 games this season.

The Panthers will lose Bell and Goodnetter to graduation, but the other four will return to Milwaukee next season. Hopefully, with another year of experience under their belt and many talented players returning, the Panthers will be able to take a step forward and become the top team in Horizon League play next season.
