The 3rd Man In

Pryor is what the Packers’ defense needs

Year-after-year the Green Bay Packers’ offense ranks near the top in almost every statistical category, but every season their defense lets them down. This team needs to draft a game changer with the 21st overall pick in the draft, a guy like Calvin Pryor. Pryor would not just improve the Packers’ secondary, but he would give them an emerging star for the years to come.

The Packers are planning on moving second year defensive back Micah Hyde to safety, but their secondary and defense as a whole would be much stronger with Hyde staying at cornerback and Pryor starting at safety.

Pryor plays the game the way it is suppose to be played. He leaves it all out on the field. He diagnoses the run extremely well, as he is not afraid to come up and make a play.

In coverage Pryor is an intimidating presence over the middle. He is able to keep opposing receivers in front of him, while possessing the ability to make plays on the ball.

Pryor may not be six feet tall like most teams desire for their starting safety, but 5’11” is pretty close. If you want someone who has experience playing both safety roles and is not afraid to make big plays – than Pryor is your guy. Ted Thompson and Co. have been looking for a game changer at the safety position since Nick Collins went down with an injury, and the Packers can finally fill their gaping hole on defense by selecting Calvin Pryor with their first round selection.
