The 3rd Man In

Poor defensive showing against Vikings

Cleveland State shot a blistering 82 percent (23-28) from the floor in the second half to claim a 84-57 victory over the Milwaukee Panthers (5-10, 0-1) on Friday evening.

Matt Tiby and Steve McWhorter finished with 16 points apiece, while the Panthers shot 35 percent (14-40) on the night.  However, the story in this game was Milwaukee’s defensive effort.

Despite being a 10-point underdog, the Panthers came out fighting in the first half, holding the slight 30-27 advantage going into halftime.

The beginning of the second half went back-and-forth for nearly the first seven minutes, but then the Vikings took complete control of the game.

Tiby made two free throws to put the Panthers down by only four points with 11:27 left, but the Vikings where able to go on a 14-5 run to take a 63-50 lead.

The Panthers failed to get any closer than 11 points of the Vikings the remainder of the game.

Something has to change for the Panthers otherwise it will be a long season for them and the fans. There is no question that Milwaukee has the talent to be one of the top teams in the Horizon League, but right now they are not playing anywhere near their potential.

They will look to pick up their first conference win of the season when they travel to Detroit to face the Titans on Sunday with tipoff sett for 12 p.m. CST. Fans in the Milwaukee area will be able to watch the game on WCGV-TV (My 24).
