Panthers return to winning ways

After losing to Green Bay on Tuesday, the Milwaukee Panthers returned to their usual ways, when they faced Valparaiso tonight. The Panthers were able to record the 1-0 victory over the Crusaders, in what was not an easy match for either team.

The Panthers (10-1-1, 3-1) started off the scoring in the 15th minute off of an impressive goal by Luke Goodnetter. Rami Younes dribbled the ball on the end line and shot it, but it was headed out to Goodnetter, who sent a blast from 30-yards out.

In the remaining 30 minutes of the first half, neither team was able to find the back of the net, but both teams had their chances. Valparaiso led the shots, 9-3, after the first 45 minutes, but only two of them were on goal.

In the second half the Panthers were able to take control of the offensive possession. While neither team was able to score, the Panthers were close on numerous occasions.

The closest the Panthers came to adding onto their score was in the final minutes when James Ashcroft had two shots on an open goal. The first shot was close to crossing the line, when a Valparaiso defender was able to kick it away at the last second. Ashcroft had another chance, but the Crusaders’ goalie was running back and able to hit it away.

Liam Anderson recorded his sixth shutout of the season, after he was able to record three saves against the Crusaders’ offense. After falling behind in the first half in shots, the Panthers finished ahead with 14 compared to Valparaiso’s 11.

Up next the Panthers will travel to Chicago to take on UIC this Wednesday. The Flames have had a great season so far going 9-3 overall and 2-0 in conference. This will be another tough test on the road for the Panthers, and it will be interesting to see how they respond after only scoring one goal against Valparaiso.
