Panthers fall on the road

No game is easy in the Horizon League, and tonight was a perfect example of that, as the Milwaukee Panthers traveled to the University of Illinois-Chicago. This game lived up to expectations of being a tightly contested matchup, but unfortunately one team had to lose. The chances were limited but the Flames (10-3, 3-0) were able to sneak away with a 1-0 win over the Panthers (10-2-1, 3-2).

With this game featuring the top two defenses in the conference, scoring opportunities were hard to come by. In the first half, both teams were unable to find the back of the net, as both goalies displayed why they have been so tough to score on this season.

It was not until mid way through the second half that the Flames were able to break through. In the 66th minute, Jesus Torres was to find the back of the net to give the Flames the lead and to secure the impressive victory.

The Flames were able to finish the game with 12 shots while holding the Panthers to a season low nine shot on the night. Freshman Liam Anderson finished the night with three saves, while the Flames’ goalie, Andrew Putna, only needed two saves to record his eighth shutout of the season.

Up next, the Panthers return home to face in-state rival Wisconsin next Wednesday night at eight o’clock. This will be an important game for both schools as they try to get a win against their in-state rival, but the key for the Panthers will be staying healthy and to continue to improve for their remaining conference games.
