Panthers baseball schedule released

Start counting down the days because in only eight months the Milwaukee Panthers baseball team will be kicking off their 2015 season. Yes that is still a ways away, but it is never too early to think ahead. Head coach Scott Doffek has put together a challenging, but an impressive schedule that even includes an exhibition game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Panthers will square off against the Brewers at Maryvale Baseball Park in Arizona on March 4. This will be the first time the Brewers have taken on a collegiate team since 1983 when they faced Arizona State University.

Milwaukee will begin their season down in sunny Florida, as they take on the University of Maine in a four-game series apart of the Winter Haven.

Following this series the Panthers will head to Louisville, Kentucky to face one of college baseballs tops teams from a year ago – the Louisville Cardinals. The Cardinals will be coming off of an incredible season when they went 50-17 and made a trip to the College World Series.

This was their third time they have advanced to Omaha in the past eight seasons, and where even ranked as high as third a year ago.

Following this series they will catch a flight to Arizona where they will play two-game series against Grand Canyon and Washington.

Washington will not be an easy opponent for the Brewers. The Huskies went 41-17 a year ago, while being ranked as high as fifth in the national polls.

To close out the Arizona road trip the Panthers will take on the Brewers.

The bulk of their nonconference schedule will conclude with a road trip to Missouri to face the Tigers in a three-game set. The Tigers have been a relatively consistent program over the years, making eight NCAA tournament appearances since 2003.

Milwaukee will begin the Horizon League season against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on the road from March 13-15.

March 27 will be the home opener for the Panthers at Henry Aaron Field against Wright State, the 2014 regular season champions.

Although Milwaukee’s conference schedule begins in mid-March, they will have some non-conference games sprinkled in until the end of the regular season. They will face Iowa and Western Illinois on the road, while taking on UW-Superior, Northwestern, Edgewood and MSOE at home.

The Panthers will have a home and away game against Northern Illinois and Chicago State.
It has become a tradition for Milwaukee to play one game each season at Miller Park following a Brewers game. It is expected to happen again next season, with the day of the game to be announced when the season approaches.

Milwaukee’s regular season will conclude May 14-16 as they face Youngstown State on the road.

The Horizon League conference tournament will be from May 20-23 at Valparaiso.

Milwaukee will be tested early on with some tough non-conference opponents. It should be interesting to see how the Panthers bounce back next season after a disappointing year. Although the season is still far away, it is hard not to be excited for the season to begin after seeing this schedule.
