Mulder suffers injury in comeback attempt

Injuries derailed his once promising career, and now in his attempt to make it back to the big league, Mark Mulder has suffered another injury. This time though it was not shoulder related issues, instead he suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon Saturday during agility drills, the Los Angeles Angels have confirmed.

Mulder, 36, signed a minor league deal with the Angels in January, which included an invitation to Spring Training after not pitching in the major leagues since 2008.

He would have earned $1 million had he made the Opening Day roster, and could have made up to $6 million if he reached all the incentives.

In nine MLB seasons, the lefty went 103-60 overall with a 4.18 ERA with the Oakland Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals.

It is still unclear whether Mulder will try to make another comeback, especially after saying that this was the best his arm has ever felt.

The toughest part Mulder said about the injury was telling his son that he was not going to be pitching this year. Mulder took to Twitter after the injury:
