The 3rd Man In

Milwaukee’s season comes to an end

This season expectations were high for the Milwaukee Panthers men’s soccer team after making a NCAA Tournament appearance last year. Returning to the NCAA Tournament was the goal, and unfortunately, the Panthers were unable to, as they fell to the Wright State Raiders, 1-0, in the first round of the Horizon League Tournament on Monday evening, officially ending their season.

It was a scoreless battle for most of the night, until the 74th minute when the 2014 Horizon League Player of the Year, Eric Lynch, found the back of the net for the Raiders.

With this loss, the Panthers finish the 2014 season with a 6-10-3 overall record. They faced many ups and downs, struggling to play consistently while having to deal with numerous injuries along the way.

This loss signals the end to four seniors careers – Laurie Bell, Luke Goodnetter, Richard Johnson and Kyle Neumann.

It is disappointing that the season had to come to an end so early. The Panthers’ roster was filled with talent this year, and unfortunately they were unable to put it all together to be a dominant team in conference play.

It will be a long offseason, but hopefully with another year of experience under their belts, the Panthers will be able to return to the top of the Horizon League next season.
