Milwaukee to face Platteville in exhibition contest

Platteville Pioneers vs. Milwaukee Panthers
Location: UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena – Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Time: 7:00 p.m. CST
Broadcast – Radio: WISN-AM1130

College basketball is finally back. The Milwaukee Panthers will play their lone exhibition game of the season in a midweek clash against the Platteville Pioneers on Thursday evening, their first game since the university purchased the naming rights to the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

Milwaukee head coach Rob Jeter is extremely familiar with the Pioneer program. Jeter was the captain for Platteville’s 1991 NCAA Division III, and was one of the top players in their program’s history, eventually being inducted into their Hall of Fame. He then was an assistant coach under Bo Ryan at Platteville, assisting them to a remarkable 108-6 record and two NCAA Division III championships.

Although the Panthers will only be going up against a D-III, this game will allow Jeter to make sure his team is ready to go for their season opener against a challenging Auburn Tigers squad.

Fans will have the opportunity to see key returners from last year’s team in Austin Arians, Matt Tiby and Steve McWhorter, while seeing all the new faces such as Justin Jordan, Akeem Springs and Trinson White.

This should be an exciting game for fans, as they will be able to see the Panthers in action for the first time since last seasons NCAA Tournament appearance, while getting to check out all the new upgrades made to the arena.
