Milwaukee ties Valparaiso on the road

With the regular season winding down the Milwaukee Panthers needed to play well against the Valparaiso Crusaders on the road Saturday evening. The Panthers did just that, as Laurie Bell netted a goal in the 67th minute to help Milwaukee register a 1-1 draw against the Crusaders.

With this tie, along with UIC losing to Wright State, the Panthers move into sole possession of sixth place in the conference standings, holding a slight one-point advantage over the Flames.

The Panthers played extremely well offensively tallying 17 shots, eight of them being on goal, against the Horizon League’s top defense. The Crusaders lead the conference with a remarkable 0.74 goals against average.

After Bell’s first attempt was unsuccessful, he corralled his own rebound, and was able to send a shot past the Crusaders’ goalie in the 66:12 mark for his third goal of the season.

Following this goal, Milwaukee was able to get a few opportunities to take the lead and win the match, but they were unsuccessful at beating the Crusaders’ talented keeper for a second time.

Besides allowing a goal, Panther goalkeeper Liam Anderson made four saves on the evening.

Milwaukee needed to play well against a challenging Valparaiso squad, and they were able to do just that. The Panthers played well on both sides of the ball, recording many scoring opportunities, while playing solid defense. Hopefully, the Panthers can continue this momentum, while getting a little bit of luck, as they try to earn a spot in the conference tournament.

The Panthers will now have an extended amount of time off, not returning to the field until November 7 at home against Detroit. This will be their final game of the regular season, as they will also honor their seniors on Senior Night.
