Milwaukee Panthers Women’s Sports Roundup

With final exams underway and winter break in sight, the Milwaukee Panthers women’s basketball team took the court against Chicago State in a Sunday afternoon contest at the Klotsche Center.

The Panthers held a 34-27 lead after 20 minutes of play, but used a 17-0 run in the early minutes of the second half to run away with the game, winning 69-47.

Ashley Green exploded offensively, pouring in a game-high 25 points to go along with nine rebounds. This was the sixth time in Milwaukee’s 10 games that she scored at least 20 points.

Jenny Lindner added 14 points with nine rebounds, while Sydney Howard nearly scored in double figures, finishing with nine points. Jordyn Swan also contributed, recording eight points and eight rebounds.

Milwaukee shot a respectable 40 percent (26-65) from the floor, but the story in this game was their defense. Despite allowing Chicago State to shoot 46.7 percent (21-45), the Panthers forced an unbelievable 27 turnovers while winning the battle on the boards, 40-24.

This win pushes Milwaukee’s record to only two games below .500 with nearly two weeks until conference games begin. The Panthers need to be a bit more consistent, but they appear to be a team that could make some noise in the Horizon League this season.

The Panthers will take a break from basketball to celebrate Christmas before returning to action to face IPFW on Dec. 28.
