Milwaukee Panthers Fall Sports Roundup

Here’s a recap of your Milwaukee Panthers in action this past week. United We Roar!

Women’s Soccer: It was an evenly contested match the entire evening, but despite playing two overtime periods, it wasn’t enough as the Milwaukee Panthers and Marquette Golden Eagles had to settle for a 1-1 draw on Wednesday at Engelmann Stadium.

Junior midfielder Callie O’Donnell netted the lone goal for the Panthers, her fifth of the season, in the 22nd minute off of a pass from Kelsey Holbert.

However, the momentum didn’t last long as the Golden Eagles scored the equalizer in just 91 seconds after the ball bounced right over the goalkeeper’s head.

Both teams had their chances to take the lead, but neither could capitalize on their opportunities.

Milwaukee returned to the pitch on Saturday when they traveled to Ohio to face Wright State. Sophomore midfielder Anna Smalley’s goal in the 18th minute proved to be the difference, giving the Panthers a 1-0 victory as they continued their strong start in Horizon League action.

The Panthers (5-3-2, 2-0-0) will look to continue their momentum in conference play with two home matches this week against Green Bay on Wednesday and on Saturday versus Youngstown State.

Volleyball: It continues to be a challenging season for the Panthers volleyball squad. After snapping their 10-match losing streak last Thursday against Oakland, winning 3-2, they got swept in weekend matches against Youngstown State and Cleveland State.

Milwaukee (3-12, 1-2) will look to figure things out and return to winning ways when they return home to face Wright State on Friday and Northern Kentucky on Saturday.

Men’s Soccer: The Panthers had only one match last week and they finished with a 1-1 draw against conference rival UIC at Engelmann Stadium Sunday evening.

Senior midfielder Declan Rodriguez recorded his third goal of the season in the 27th minute when he headed it in off of a nicely placed corner kick by freshman midfielder Francesco Saporito.

The Panthers held the lead through halftime, and it wasn’t until the 55th minute that the Flames tied the game up.

Senior goalkeeper Agustin Rey had another phenomenal game in net for the Panthers, tallying four saves.

Milwaukee (2-4-2, 1-0-1) returns to action on Saturday evening with a home contest against Valparaiso with the game starting at 7:30 following the women’s soccer match.
