Milwaukee Panthers continue to struggle

After tying instate rival Green Bay for the Chancellor’s Cup on Wednesday, the Milwaukee Panthers returned to the pitch to face the Wright State Raiders on Saturday evening in Dayton, Ohio.

The Panthers continued to struggle, losing to the Raiders 3-0, falling into eighth place in the Horizon League standings with an overall record of 3-6-2 and a conference mark of 0-2-1.

Milwaukee got off to a rocky start, allowing a goal to the Raiders in the ninth minute on a free kick.

The Raiders added on quickly, scoring goals in the 24th and 38th minute to take a commanding lead entering halftime.

Despite being down, the Panthers continued to fight. They were able to get shots on goal, however they were unable to break up the shutout.

Wright State held a slight advantage in shots, 12-to-7, but Milwaukee was able to record more shots on goal, 7-to-4.

The story in this match was that Raiders were able to take advantage of their opportunities, while the Panthers weren’t. The Raiders goalkeeper and defense was able to make impressive saves, to shutout the defending Horizon League champions.

With this loss Milwaukee now only sits a point above Belmont for last place in the conference standings. Only the top six teams make it into the conference tournament so the Panthers have some work to do if they want to defend their title.

Milwaukee will look to turn things around, as they take a short break from conference play, traveling to Western Illinois on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. start.
