Milwaukee earns tournament berth with win

This season the Milwaukee Panthers men’s soccer team has faced many ups and downs, but when they needed a win to secure a berth into the Horizon League Tournament, they were able to do so.

On Senior Night and in their final game of the 2014 regular season, the Panthers were able to knock off the first-place Detroit Titans, 2-0, with a pair of freshmen scoring goals for Milwaukee on a chilly November evening.

Petter Ingebrigtsen gave the Panthers the 1-0 lead in the 17th minute, while Reid Stevenson added the assurance goal in the 70th minute.

This was a perfect way for the Panthers to end the regular season, as they honored the four seniors on the roster in Luke Goodnetter, Richard Johnson, Laurie Bell and Kyle Neumann.

Goalkeeper Liam Anderson played well for the Panthers, holding the Titans’ offensive attack scoreless, while making three saves on the night.

Detroit was able to record 20 shots on goal compared to Milwaukee’s 10, but the Panthers were able to take advantage of their opportunities unlike the Titans.

This was an excellent win for the Panthers. They have had to deal with adversity all season, after being selected to win the regular season conference title this preseason, but they persevered and met their goal of making it into the conference tournament.

Now that they are in, anything can happen. If they are able to play like they did against the Titans, they will have an excellent chance of making a run in the tournament.

Milwaukee is now in the conference tournament and will be the sixth seed. They will hit the road to face Wright State on Monday evening in their first round matchup.

In Milwaukee’s regular season matchup against Wright State, they fell 3-0 on the road. Hopefully this time the Panthers are able to play up to their ability because if they do, there is a great chance that they will walk away victorious.
