Michael Porcaro named an All-American

Michael Porcaro has been a productive player over the last two seasons for the Milwaukee Panthers, but this past season Porcaro did something that no one could have expected. Once a preferred walk-on for the Panthers, Michael Porcaro not only was named the Horizon League Player of the Year and to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Division I Mideast All-Region First Team, but he was also honored as a Louisville Slugger All-American, the first for Milwaukee since Mike Goetz in 2006.

“It’s pretty humbling, it’s pretty cool too. Especially cool because I am the first since Mike Goetz and I really look up to him,” said Michael Porcaro when asked about what it meant to be Milwaukee’s first All-American since 2006.

This is an incredible honor for someone like Porcaro, who was not highly recruited out of Burlington High School, and did not receive an offer from Milwaukee until the middle of his senior season.

“I needed one opportunity and Milwaukee gave it to me,” said Porcaro.

Michael Porcaro may have only received one offer to play Division I baseball, but that has not stopped him from producing at an extremely high level. His team first attitude, along with his experience and hard work has allowed him to take advantage of his opportunity. This past season he led the Horizon League with a .364 average while hitting one homerun and driving in 43 RBIs in 49 games. While many people think he will have huge expectations placed on him entering next season, Porcaro does not think of it as a big deal.

“I am just trying to help us win a championship. If I don’t have as great of a year next year, that is okay, as long as we are winning. I really just want to leave my mark on this program by winning championships,” said Porcaro.

The Panthers have been successful throughout Porcaro’s time in Milwaukee, and his team first attitude has helped him already leave his mark on the program. Now a scholarship player, Michael Porcaro was named the Panthers first All-American since 2006 for his excellent year this past season. He will continue to improve on his game this offseason by becoming stronger physically and mentally to not only have an even better season next year, but to help the Panthers to be a competitive baseball team.
