Lewers earns weekly conference award

Milwaukee Panthers senior forward Kelly Lewers has been named the Horizon League Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Lewers, the defending Horizon League Player of the Year, led the Panthers’ offensive attack scoring two goals this past week.  Against Illiniois State on Wednesday evening, she scored the game-winning goal, helping the Panthers to a 2-1 victory. Then on Saturday, she scored the equalizer against conference foe Cleveland State in a 1-1 draw.

She was the only player in the Horizon League to score more than one goal this past week, while moving into sixth place in all-time points in program history.

This is the third time in Lewers’ career that she has earned this honor.

Lewers will look to continue her high level of play this week as the Panthers have two conference games, traveling to Green Bay on Wednesday before returning to Engelmann Stadium to play Wright State on Saturday.
