The 3rd Man In

LeWang Trophy is on the line

After winning in impressive fashion this weekend at home against Oakland University, the Milwaukee Panthers (11-2-2) will be hitting the road. They will face non-conference opponent, Northern Illinois University (4-10) for the annual LeWang Trophy Wednesday night.

The LeWang Trophy is named after former NIU coach, John LeWang, who was killed in a car accident prior to the 1981 season. The Panthers will be looking to hold onto the trophy for a third straight season, as they have won the last two meetings 1-0 each time.

Northern Illinois has struggled offensively this season, as they have been shutout seven times and only average one goal per game. Junior midfielder/forward Isaac Kannah has been the Huskies top offensive player with six goals for a total of 12 points, and has 36 shots with 11 of them being on goal this season.

In goal for NIU will be Andrew Glaeser, who has been the most consistent option for them, starting 11 games while allowing a little more than one goal a game.

This is always one of the more difficult non-conference games for both teams no matter what the records are, as both squads want to be holding up the prestigious LeWang Trophy at the end of the game. While NIU’s goalie has been dependable throughout the season, the Panthers will have the advantage as their offense has been clicking on all cylinders this season.
