The 3rd Man In

Franklin’s career comes to abrupt halt

Football is a dangerous and grueling game. Unfortunately injuries are apart of it, and a player never knows when his career maybe over. In Week 12 of last season Green Bay Packers’ running back Johnathan Franklin suffered a neck injuring ending his season, little did anyone know that this game would be Franklin’s last in the NFL.

A fourth-round pick in 2013, Mike McCarthy announced the disappointing news saying the running back “will not be back with us,” then Franklin confirmed the news on Twitter.

“First off, I would like to thank everyone who has supported me upon getting to this part of my life,” Franklin wrote. “(It) has been a tremendous blessing. Unfortunately this week I have been ruled out of returning for the 2014/15 season and returning to play in the NFL.

“But I understand God knows what he is doing and for now he has another platform for me to step upon.”

This is devastating news for Franklin along with the Packers who where expecting big things from him in his sophomore campaign. Franklin is a class act and to see this happen to someone like him is disappointing.

In Franklin’s only pro season he rushed for 107 yards on 19 carries while scoring a touchdown.

Coming out of UCLA Franklin said, “football does not define us.” This line is right on point. You never know how long a football career will last because as we are seeing with Franklin, it only takes one hit for it to be over.

Franklin continuously stated that it is his goal to become the major of Los Angeles, and now it might happen sooner than anyone would have expected.

The Packers should be stable at running back with six players in camp, and even without football it appears Franklin will be just fine.

Whether Franklin does become the major of LA or pursues a different career, in his short time in Green Bay he was an outstanding individual who was willing to help the team in any way he could. He will be missed in Green Bay, and I wish Franklin all the best in his future.
