Brewers make a change in the bullpen

Jeremy Jeffress is back in a Milwaukee Brewers uniform. With the recent struggles in the bullpen, the Brewers have called up Jeffress, while opting Rob Wooten to Triple-A Nashville on Monday.

To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the Brewers transferred right-hander Jim Henderson from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL.

Jeffress, 26, was a former first round selection by the Brewers in 2006. The Brewers then shipped him to Kansas City in 2011 when he was apart of the deal that landed Zack Greinke in Milwaukee. He later moved onto Toronto.

After the Blue Jays designated him for assignment on April 4, he decided to become a free agent instead of accepting the assignment. The Brewers then picked him up, and placed the hard throwing righty on the Nashville roster.

In 30 games with the Sounds, Jeffress was 4-1 with a 1.51 ERA and five saves. He allowed 33 hits and 18 walks while striking out 45 in 41 2/3 innings.

Jeffress made his major league debut with the Brewers in 2010, and ended up appearing in 10 games, going 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA and 1.400 WHIP.

With the Royals and Blue Jays he appeared in 40 games over a course of four seasons having little success going 2-1 with a 4.89 ERA and a 1.866 WHIP.

Jeffress has also had his share of off the field problems. In the minor leagues with the Brewers he was suspended three times for testing positive for marijuana. The last two resulted in a 50-game suspension in 2007 and 100-game suspension in 2009.

Jeffress has earned this promotion, and it will be exciting to see what this once promising pitching prospect can do for the Brewers in the heat of a playoff race.
