The 3rd Man In

Back to conference games

After taking a one game break from Horizon League action, the Milwaukee Panthers (10-2-2, 3-2) will return to conference play this Saturday night as they host the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies (5-4-5, 3-0-1).

The Golden Grizzlies have enjoyed solid success in their first season as a member of the Horizon League. They are undefeated in Horizon League play, and are currently second in conference with wins over Wright State, Detroit and Cleveland State.

Although they have done well overall this season, the Golden Grizzlies are on a two game losing streak, with losses to #14 Michigan State and The Ohio State University.  In those two games they have allowed seven goals, while being unable to score once.

At times their offense has been known to struggle. They have been shutout five times, while only averaging one goal per game this season. Leading their offensive attack is junior forward, Joey Tinnion, who has 14 points on six goals and two assists. Their other main offensive option is Miche’le Lipari, a senior midfielder/forward. He has four goals and an assist for nine points this season.

In net for Oakland will be senior Sean Lewis. He has started 12 games for the Golden Grizzlies while recording a 0.90 goals against average.

The Panthers have another tough game on their hands, as Oakland is a good team, who plays solid defense. This will be a key game for both teams, as each of them only has one more conference game after Saturday. Taking advantage of every opportunity will be key, as goals will be hard to come by with two good defenses matching up.
